What is StreetAdvisor?

StreetAdvisor is the world's first online community for "real life" reviews at the street level.

StreetAdvisor is the easy way to find out what people REALLY think about the street they live in. It's a place where people can finally voice their opinions about where they live, have lived or simply visited!

  • "If only I knew what my street was like before I bought the house!"
  • "I wish there was a way to ask my neighbors a question, but I'm just too busy to see them."
  • "I like my house, but my street is so noisy!"

StreetAdvisor was created to solve these and many other problems people have when living in streets or when buying and selling real estate. Read more about StreetAdvisor.

Why use StreetAdvisor?

StreetAdvisor provides FREE, relevant, inside information on a street helping homebuyers, owners and renters with some of life's most important decisions.

Consider the following when deciding where to live:

  • Financial - buying the right house in the wrong street can be a very costly decision.
  • Quality of Life - The wrong street can have a big impact on quality of life. Neighborly disputes, noise levels, traffic etc can all contribute to stress levels.
  • Communication - Being able to learn and share details about your street with your neighbors improves your community and can save you time and money. Easily find the best in services, the most reliable, the safest choices etc.

Is StreetAdvisor free?

Searching for streets

How do I find my street on StreetAdvisor?

Go to www.streetadvisor.com and type in your street name in the search box. It's that simple! As an example you can enter either of:

  • Miller St
  • Miller Street
  • Miller St, San Diego

If multiple options exist simply click on the result that matches the street you are looking for.

I can't find my street... please help!

Make sure that you have the correct country selected on the right hand side of the search window. It's also a good idea to check for spelling mistakes as well. Also be sure to type in as much information regarding your street as possible. Typing "STREET NAME, SUBURB, CITY" will find better results than if you just type "STREET NAME". If all else fails, shoot us an email at support@streetadvisor.com and we'll see if we can help you find your street.

For more help with searching, read Searching for places made easy on StreetAdvisor and How to find the best and worst streets in your neighborhood on the StreetAdvisor blog.

Is StreetAdvisor just about Streets? Or can I also search for a City... or even a State / Country?

Absolutely! Just enter the city name into the search box – e.g. "San Diego" and StreetAdvisor will take you to the City Overview page. You can also do the same for States and Countries.

The Overview tab

Ok, I've found my Street / City / State / Country... now what?

Now that you have found your street, you will be taken to the Overview Tab. The Overview Tab is exactly what it sounds like, an overview of all the information relating to the geographic location. It contains an overview of all the reviews for the street (or city), photos and videos, the recent topics that have been discussed and the local experts in the area.

The Overview tab is great, but what are the other tabs I can explore?

While the Overview Tab is a great starting place to get to know your favorite place, there's so much to explore on streetadvisor. There are four other main tabs found on each geographic location:

  • The Reviews Tab.
  • The Guides Tab.
  • The Boards Tab.
  • The Video & Photos Tab.

The Review tab

Why would I want to review my street?

Reviewing your street is a fun way to let others know what you REALLY think of life in your street.

Many have had great life experiences in their streets, while others not so great. We believe people want to talk about these experiences and StreetAdvisor provides the easiest place to share this information.

Importantly, your review also contributes to your StreetSCORE and StreetRANK and is used to compare your street to others in the city in which you live. Maybe your street can be Number 1 in your city… or even the country!

And don't forget, the larger the community of reviewers, the more valuable for everyone, eventually everyone needs to find a new street when it's time to move.

Sounds great! But now I want to contribute and review my street. How do I post a review?

Once you have found your street, click on the "Write a Review" button and follow the steps.

Do my reviews have to be positive?

Absolutely not! The main thing to remember when writing a review about your street is to be honest. We want people to be informed about every aspect of the street, both the good and the bad. If you're still not quite sure about what to write in your review, then take a look at our review guidelines.

Can I edit my review?

Yes. If you have made a mistake or want to add some more information, log in and find your review, then click to edit it.

Does StreetAdvisor edit or delete reviews in any way?

We don't generally edit or delete reviews because we believe every person has a right to express their opinion. We do however have a strict takedown policy if the reviews that are written break our review guidelines.

We do edit reviews that may be good overall but contain information that may identify real living people or places that could be considered inappropriate or a breach of privacy.

Can I write a review on where I used to live? What about my holiday house?

Of course you can! You can review as many streets as you like, but it's best to keep the information honest and relevant.

Someone in my street has posted a very biased negative review that I disagree with. Is there any way I can get their review removed?

Again, we believe everyone has a right to express their own opinion, as long as it doesn't conflict with our review guidelines. The best thing you can do is write another review explaining why you disagree with them, or comment on their review explaining your opinion.

The Guides tab

Tell me more about the Guide tab.

A Guide is an open platform for people to freely write about anything that is related to their street (or geographic location). To get you started we have provided 4 broad categories like "Life in the Street" and "Things to do" etc to which you can add information.

You can also add your own topics in case there is something unique you'd like to share.

Can anyone edit a Guide?

Absolutely! The Guidebook tab is free to edit by everyone and anyone. Guides are like a wiki. You can add to them and alter them anonymously, without logging in, if you wish. If you do log in, you will earn Local Expert points for making Guide entries.

The Boards tab

What are the StreetAdvisor Boards (Forums)?

Too busy to talk with your neighbors? Now there's a smarter way with the StreetAdvisor Boards.

The Boards provide a way for you to communicate with the people in your street / city / state / country 24/7. The amount of local information contained within the people that live in your area is enormous and untapped. The Boards provide a tool to share that information.

You can also access the Forums from the Forums button in the site header.

The Video & Photos tab

How do I upload a photo or video of a street?

Uploading a photo or video is very easy (and fun too). Just follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your StreetAdvisor account.
  2. On any street, navigate to the Photo and Video tab and click on "Add Photo / Video". Enter a title and description (and also any tags you might think of) for the photo or video – e.g. "My Street Tour".
  3. Browse your computer – select the photo or video file you wish to upload.
  4. Click the Upload button on StreetAdvisor's review page.

Once the photo or video is uploaded we will then encode the video and post it to the street. ** It may take anywhere from 10 minutes to several hours to post depending on file size and bandwidth.

Only upload a photo or video that is relevant to the street you are attaching it to. We will remove inappropriate or copyright material.

Why can't I see my photo or video?

If you cant see your photo or video it is likely that the encoding process has not been completed. If after several hours the photo or video is still not available please email support@streetadvisor.com and we will investigate it for you.

How long will my photo or video take to upload?

It all depends on the size of the photo or video and your internet connection speed. Once the photo or video is uploaded we begin a process called "encoding" which ensures everyone can view your photo or video. It can typically take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.
